H1N1 = conspiracy ?

This is a quote from an article published on Los Angeles Times Blog October 8th, 2009:

'Media commentators Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh have apparently fallen prey to the loony websites of the anti-vaccine folks and have begun campaigning against the swine flu vaccine program, according to the liberal group Media Matters for America. '

'In the face of a nationwide campaign calling for virtually everybody to receive the newly released H1N1 vaccine, Dr. Mayer Eisenstein is advising his patients to say no.

Eisenstein, a Chicago-area family physician emphasizing alternative therapies, said, “Vaccines cause autism. End of story. You look at populations that haven’t had vaccines and it’s just not true.”'

'Yesterday, New Brunswick's Department of Health confirmed that a mercury-based preservative called thimerosal would be included as one of the substances in the H1N1 vaccine. The same substance also appears in vaccines for seasonal-flu and hepatitis B.'

'But Cleary acknowledged that having mercury in a vaccine might be troubling for some. "The reality is we're exposed to small amounts of mercury in the environment daily," she said. "So the tiny amount that is in this product is really not of any significance in comparison to what we're exposed to.'

'The province says thimerosal is added to a vaccine during the manufacturing process to maintain sterility, stabilize effects, and prevent contamination.'
